CELEBRITY SUNGLASS LOOKS FOR ALL

Stylist Tips

Ana Montoya
Ah… If only we all could have a pro stylist to help us look like a star every morning! Well, Rowenta Style Lab Fashion Expert Jorge Ramón can help you find the best sunglasses for your customers. An avid lover of all things fashion, Ramón is co-host of The Mun2 Look, Mun2’s smash hit fashion and entertainment show. He has styled celebs like Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Reese Witherspoon, and Scarlett Johansson. Take note of Ramón’s tips on how to help customers match the hottest looks of the season with just the right pair of shades.

SUNGLASSES: If you could give consumers some tips for shopping for sunglasses, what would they be?

JORGE RAMÓN: Sunglasses are one of the most important accessories because they can instantly update your morning outfit, protect the eyes from squinting (thus preventing wrinkles), give a sense of mystery, keep you from having to do your eye makeup, and look great hold-ing back your hair. Here are a few tips for finding the perfect pair.

THE RULE OF OPPOSITES:
A general rule of thumb: Have customers go with styles that are opposite of their face shapes.
If they have a round face, look for styles that are square/ geometric which create a horizontal line across their face which balances the roundness. Stay away from round frames.
If they’re more angular, look for rounder shapes like ovals or oversized rounds that soften sharper, more defined faces. Avoid square or rectangle shapes.
If their face is oval, they win! Most styles will flatter this face shape. However, don’t recommend small rectangular lenses.

STYLE PROFILE: With the myriad of different style options from every top designer like D&G and Valentino to Tom Ford and Michael Kors to Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, the world of stylish, statement-making eyewear is global. Keep in mind, not every trend or shape works on every face, so here are the top four styles:

Michael Kors, Montrose

Wraps: Frame “wraps” around the face, past the eye to the temple.
Shields: Features a one-piece lens that’s rimmed or rimless.
Aviators: A classic shape with a teardrop lens traditionally with a metal rim.
Cat Eye: Pinched at the corners; this look is both retro and modern.

SG: How can shoppers match their sunglasses to summer trends and/or accessories?

JR: Sunglasses are meant to be a fun, easy way to add allure and attitude to whatever is being worn, from a bikini with a cover-up and a straw hat, to leggings with a rock tee and heels. Sun-glasses can give new life to an “old fave” or can make a new outfit come to life, so keep in mind some simple ideas when pairing with your favorite summer trends:

Military trends stand at attention this season, including khaki and army green. Think about an updated version of an aviator with colored metal trim or an oversized tortoiseshell frame.
Prints are bright, loud, and fun while patterns are optic, tribal, and painterly. Keep your sunwear to a minimum so as to
not compete with your outfit. A perfect pairing: This season’s hottest trend: see-through frames.

Tod's, Style No. TO 0010

Shine, sparkle, and sequins will keep the party spirit alive this summer. From cardigans to cocktail dresses, this festive look needs sunglass styles that are darker and a bit heavier framed to balance the “pretty” factor.
Denim this season is ripped, torn, distressed, and tie-dyed. Keep this look fresh and not so grunge by pairing it with a modern shield frame in a cool color and keep the top simple with items like a classic v-neck “boyfriend” tee and high-heel booties.
Neutral tones ruled the runway for the summer season so shake it up and choose sunglasses with presence and polish like a patterned oversized pair or embellished with studs and stones to offset the plain palette.
