TARGETS YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS

Ana Montoya
The sun’s rays are damaging to anyone who’s exposed to them, but there are certain groups of people who are more susceptible than others. Keep these different customers in mind when eyeing how to make your next sunglass sale.

1. Children: Never forget the most vulnerable victims of the sun’s harmful UV. Since kids’ eyes are still developing, they absorb more UV rays than adults. And, by the time they’ve reached the age of 18, they’ve already been exposed to 80% of their lifetime UV.

2. Seniors: Just like the rest of our bodies, as we grow older
our eyes become more fragile as well as sensitive to the sun. Consider the increased risk of developing eye diseases at this age and you’ll see why this group absolutely needs eye protection from the sun.

3. Contact lens wearers: While some contact lenses come equipped with built-in UV protection, others don’t. This is a HUGE opportunity for sunglass sales.

4. People living at high altitudes: If your shop happens to be located in a destination at a high altitude, then you probably already know that sun exposure is more intense there due to less protection from the atmosphere. UV rays can be up to two to three times more powerful, so make sure you’ve got your customers covered!

5. People with fair skin: Light skin features less protective pigment or melanin throughout the body—and that includes the skin near the eyes. Fair-skinned customers can easily stay in the clear by wearing a pair of shades.

The need to wear sunglasses is one that affects us all. And now with summer just around the corner, you’ve got that on your side, too. Take that and run with it.
